Luminaria 2010, Hemisfair

Join us in Hemisfair from 10 AM to 3 PM!

Every year, Luminaria hosts community programs like workshops and brunches with our Featured Artists. We pride ourselves on being a connector of people and artists from around the world. Don't miss your chance to meet the artists, ask questions and even work alongside them!


Artists Market (11:00am - 3:00pm)

Bring a piece of Luminaria home with you from the artists market, where Luminaria’s featured artists will have CDs, artwork, and more available for purchase.


Artist Brunches  (11:00am - 12:30pm) / $35 reservation

Share a meal and conversation with Luminaria’s Featured Artists and curators.


Migration Brunch at Con Safos

Patty Ortiz, Proyecto Diáspora, Ramin Samandari and curator Guillermina Zabala share how they engage with stories of migration through their artistic practice.


Legacy Brunch - Location TBD

Juan Tejeda (Raiz XicanX) and Jaime Umberto Mejia (Volcán) join curator Adriana Flores in a conversation about honoring the legacy of diverse musical traditions that inform their work, and how they make those traditions their own.


True Stories Brunch - Location TBD

Author Nan Cuba and Artists Susi Lopera and Xavier Gilmore present work inspired by the true stories of individuals living in and around San Antonio. Join curator Mark McCoin in a conversation with the artists as they share the challenges and inspiration that comes with working with these local narratives.


Artist-Run Workshops and Demonstrations (12:00pm - 3:00pm) / $5 suggested donation. All ages welcome!

Learn to express yourself through art with Luminaria's Featured Artists.


DJing and Hip Hop Workshop

Location TBD / DJ Booth 12:00pm - 3:00pm; Dance Workshop 12:30pm and 1:30pm)

AM Project brings the beat with their mobile DJ experience! Enjoy music by one of the AM DJs plus test your mixing skills and learn what it takes to spin with the best. When the music sets in and you’re ready to dance, join in for Hip Hop dance classes at 12:30pm and 1:30pm.


Flamenco Dance Workshop

Location TBD /  1:00 and 2:00 pm

Arte y Pasión demonstrates classic flamenco movements - but leave your tacones at home. We’re dancing in bare feet (or sneakers), accompanied by live guitar.


Paper-cutting Workshop

Location TBD / 1:00pm, 1:30pm, 2:00pm, 2:30pm

Laura D. Schultz shares techniques for creating images using cut paper, inspired by sea life.


Luminaria workshop

Location TBD / 12:00pm - 3:00pm

Drop in between 12 and 3 and create your own paper lantern.


Glass-Blowing Demonstration

Location TBD / 12:00pm - 3:00pm

Justin Parr and Adam Smolensky demonstrate glass “lace-work“, a technique molding glass rods into finished works.


Food & Drink

Commonwealth Café, La Paleteria, Dough Pizza and Con Safos will all be open with special Luminaria options as well as their full menu available.
