Jose Villalobos

Jose Villalobos was born and raised in El Paso, Texas to a traditional conservative famliy. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Villalobos juxtaposes distress with comfort deriving from patriarchal and religious social structures which marginalize gay identity. He manipulates material through the context of self-identity as he examines gender roles within family culture. For Luminaria 2018, Villalobos presented a new performance and installation piece titled La Carga de la Tradición.
