Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival

From 7:00 PM to midnight, as you roam Hemisfair on your personal quest to behold the staged events, myriad installations will materialize and mesmerize you along the way. On porches, in gardens, nestled amongst trees, artistic creations suffuse the night with sights and sounds to see, hear, touch, and explore.

Presented by Bank of America, Luminaria’s Open Stage and Open Gallery will inspire you with original visual and performance artworks by local artists.

Light Up the Night
Cast a spotlight on yourself and enter our annual Light Up the Night costume contest. Glow through the evening DIY style in distinctively radiant garb handcrafted by you. Your illuminated walking art piece could win you a prize!

Art Quest Adventure
Participate in this family-friendly Art Quest led by Spare Parts educators. Travel the festival footprint and learn how art and creativity can revitalize the environment and innovate sustainability. Win a prize when you’ve reached your final destination in this passport program.

Enjoy your Luminaria VIP experience with an exclusive preview on Friday, November 8. Continue your Luminaria VIP experience Saturday, November 9, in the private Contemporary Arts Festival Lounge. Hang out with fellow VIPs while savoring light bites and drinks at the sleek ’68 Apartments. Finish the weekend with saved seating for the closing performance at Mission San Jose on Sunday, November 10th.

Learn, play, and create with Luminaria’s Featured Artists on Community Arts Day!

A family-friendly day with artist-led demonstrations, workshops, and brunches sparks creativity while an Artist Market provides a chance to purchase artworks and memorabilia.

Printing with the Sun
Learn to make cyanotypes with San Antonio-based artist and educator Sarah Fox. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that uses the sun to develop an image.

Reading to the Beat
Writer Xelena González mingles a reading of her book with movement-based, interactive performance.

Painting That Pops
Join artist Albert Gonzales as we create a community mural using paints that glow.

Dish on art and dine on San Antonio’s celebrated cuisine with Luminaria Featured Artists. $35 will save your seat at the table.

The Intersection of Art, Film, and Technology

San Antonio Sound Garden presents DJ Axe6, a 12-year-old DJ that is changing the game for teen DJs everywhere.

Closing Performance

Enjoy a culturally reflective closing performance by Mike Ryan y Los San Patricios, who blend Indigenous, Mexican, American, and Irish music in an upbeat multimedia concert.
