Miguel Gutierrez

Miguel Gutierrez is a choreographer, writer, and teacher. For Luminaria, Gutierrez performed Age & Beauty: Part 1 – Mid-Career Artist/Suicide Note or &:-/, a work commissioned for the 2014 Whitney Biennial as a Texas premiere. This intense performance marks the first of a suite of queer pieces Gutierrez is performing over the course of three years. For his first installation Gutierrez addresses the representation of the dancer, the physical and emotional labor of performance, the interaction of art-making with administration, and mid-life anxieties about relevance, sustainability and artistic burnout.
