The Luminaria festival is launched by then San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger, a passionate supporter of the arts. In a city renowned for annual public celebrations (viva Fiesta!), Luminaria would hold a unique role of spotlighting the arts as an important part of city life. The festival took place all across downtown and featured regional artists of all media.
